How to create a Blog ?
First off, the steps I outline here are for blogs that are hosted by an actual hosting company. Not the free blogs you can start on various platforms such as WordPress.com or blogger.com or Tumblr.com etc… These are all fine to use but this means you won’t really have 100% control over your blog and its customization. Remember, the “Free” blogs are actually hosted on a platform you have no control over… PERIOD!
If you’re serious about starting a blog, let’s get serious about doing this correctly. I’m going to outline the 3 easy steps below that will have your own blog up and running within about 30 minutes. Of course this will depend on how well you can follow directions. If you were to ask me to start a blog from scratch, I can do it within about 8 minutes flat. It’s super easy once you learn. It’s like riding a bike. once you learn you’ll always be able to jump on a bike and ride.
OK, no more wasting time here. Let’s get started:
Step #1: Set-Up A Hosting Account
Setting up a hosting account is the first crucial step in starting a blog. This is the place that will host (or store) your blog. The most common name I bet you may think of is probably GoDaddy.com right? Hold your horses, before you jump right to Go Daddy, there are other choices that are available and in my opinion (and many opinions of so many other professional bloggers) BlueHost is the way to go. Why? Because they’re platform is very user-friendly (for non-technical dummies like me) and their platform is geared for hosting blogs. I have a GoDaddy account and a Bluehost account and let me tell you, Bluehost is definitely easier to use.
Step #2: Uploading the WordPress Widget
The really cool thing about Bluehost is that with the click of one button your blog will set itself up. Yup, it’s really that easy. All you do is log on, go to the cPanel and click on the little “Install WordPress” icon. The instructions after that are easy to follow. This part takes no more than about 1 minute to complete. Once you finish this step your blog is almost ready to go. Well, technically it is ready to go now but once you see step #3 you’ll see what I mean.
Step #3: Changing the template
When you go shopping to the mall, you see hundreds of stores right? You walk into some that have a great vibe and a super charged atmosphere, while others have no customers and you can almost hear the crickets in the background. Before too long these stores are out of business. That’s how you blog works too. If you don’t have a great look and feel to your blog people won’t stick around for too long. I recommend changing the theme to something eye-catching that suits your topic. Don’t settle for the standard template that comes preloaded.
If you like the 3 simple steps I’ve outlined above you may be interested in seeing how they work in action. I have recorded (through screen capture software) myself going through all 3 steps to set up a real life blog. I actually have a 4th step but it’s hard to write about it. I’d have to show you. The 4th step is all about customizing your blog once a template loaded. If you’d like access to these videos, no problem, they’re free.
